Best picnic spots to visit this summer!

Us Brits love nothing more than chatting about the weather and enjoying a picnic of sarnies, scotch eggs, cocktail sausages, crisps, and of course a Skinny Bar (or two), right?

Us Brits love nothing more than chatting about the weather and enjoying a picnic of sarnies, scotch eggs, cocktail sausages, crisps, and of course a Skinny Bar (or two), right?

Well, now that the weather’s finally improving and with the Queen’s Jubilee coming up this weekend, we’ve been searching for the best outdoor hangout spots to soak up some sun and enjoy some time outside with our loved ones. To help give you some inspo and ideas of places you may want to dine alfresco (feels much fancier saying that than just an ol’ picnic), we’ve put together a list of our top picnic spots in the UK for you to enjoy your lunch with a view!

Cornwall:

Kynance Cove: This beautiful cove, beach and coastal path has been voted the best spot in the South West. The perfect spot for the kids to have a paddle while you lie back and enjoy a sandwich (hopefully minus the sand). Tip: you need to be careful about checking the tides, as there’s a risk of being cut off from the mainland in this tucked away beach.

Somerset:

Alexandra Park, Bath: If you fancy a picnic during a city break or day trip to Bath, head up to Alexandra Park for views of the entire city while you munch away. Complete with public loos, a playground, benches, and a look out, it’s just a twenty minute walk from the city centre. Note: you have to get up a pretty steep hill to get there, which is sure to get up that appetite.

Yorkshire:

Dalby Forest: If you live in Yorkshire you’ve probably paid a visit to the stunning Dalby Forest in the North York Moors. If not, head on over for a wonderful day trip, walk down to the stream and enjoy the babbling brooks while tucking into a sarnie or two. It’s the ideal place to take your bikes to for one of their bike trails (don’t forget that basket on the front for your pack-up).

Robin Hood’s Bay – This little seaside fishing village is famous for its stunning sea views and views over the red cottage roof tops. A lovely place for a summer’s day mooch and a picnic, and why not pick up an ice cream while you’re there too?

Norfolk:

Wroxham Broad: Norfolk is home to the famous ‘broads’, a series of canals, rivers and lakes named as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Wroxham is known as the ‘Capital of the Broads’ and has a picnic spot right next to the water, where there’s a spacious grassy bank and easy access. If your lunch puts you in the mood for a venture out onto the water, you can hire a boat for a day from nearby too!

London:

Primrose Hill: London of course has plenty of amazing spots for lunch, but a picnic really does call for a grassy park and a good view, so this hilltop park in London is a fab spot to get away from the hustle and bustle with views over Regent’s Park and the city beyond, opened to the public in 1842.

Scotland:

The Fairy Pools at Isle of Skye – It’s as pretty as it sounds: The Fairy Pools are the perfect spot for an alfresco lunch after a hike. Nothing builds an appetite like a swim in naturally crystal blue pools.

Loch Lubnaigh, the Highlands: If you’re visiting Scotland, a loch is likely on your tourist bucket list. Loch Lubnaigh is a lovely spot for an afternoon picnic with the family, as there are picnic tables on the beach, a little cabin selling hot and cold if you forgot your sarnies, toilet facilities and a campsite if you like it so much you decide to spend the night.

Northern Ireland:

Carrick-a-Rede: This is a National Trust site with incredible views and an impressive (or terrifying, if you’re not a fan of heights) rope bridge taking you from the mainland to a tiny island. Treat yourself to a scotch egg or two after braving the bridge!

Wales:

Bute Park: If you’re in Cardiff for a city break, head to Bute Park for a picnic with the interesting flora and fauna to escape the bustle of the city for an hour. It’s easily accessible and is ideal if you’re a fan of people watching.

Nantocol Waterfalls: Snowdonia National Park has been chosen as one of the most ‘Instagrammable’ picnic spots in the country in a poll by Fentimans. Yep. So if you’re one for taking snaps of your picnic, this might be the place for you to lunch.

We’d love to know if you live near any of these sites, or if we missed any fab picnic spots off our list, so head over to Instagram and let us know! And of course, don’t forget to tag us on Instagram or Facebook in your picnic pics – we love having a nosy at what you include in your pack ups (and what flavour Skinny Bars you add to yours)!

Have a fab day guys,

Lots of Love,

Team Skinny xx
